MceLeod Mansion     Slave Cabins

The Friends of McLeod is a federally tax-exempt charitable organization dedicated to preserving and protecting the McLeod Plantation, including its house, slave cabins, outbuildings, cemetery, oak allees, woods, character-defining fields and rural vistas. The Friends of McLeod will educate the public on the plantation's historical importance and particularly its importance in African-American history, from slavery to the Civil War to freedom as well as its agricultural history as a Sea Island plantation. The organization is also dedicated to protecting the plantation as one of South Carolina's most valuable archaeological sites.

McLeod Plantation Through An Artist's Eye

We are delighted to announce a new series for our website!

A long-time friend of Mr. Willie McLeod has collected over 10,000 artifacts from the fields of McLeod Plantation. Mr. Willie would call his friend when a field was being plowed, so he could rake through what was plowed up. We'll show you this amazing collection by frequently adding new photographs to the Artifacts page.

This will all take a while, so keep checking in to see what new photographs are shown. We're sure you'll like them.
